Proposal #2...

Alright, so I still plan on helping out with making the promotional video, but it isn't exactly where my passion is. I decided to go to another route.

I was getting very frustrated with this project because I had no idea what was going on honestly, but after having a much need talk with Ms. James and Ms. Stogsdill (I love you both like a lot), I am going to do what I want to do.

At first I was very interested in shadowing a local concert promoter/tour manager and I was about to get in contact with one until I went to a late night concert Friday. Everything was crazy and I'll just say that a stage diver knocked a guy unconscious, sending him to the hospital, and my friend had a seizure there (very scary moment for me). I don't think I am ready to deal with situations like these since they do occur time to time depending on which show you're at.

I also talked with Ms. James about Danielle's idea about recognizing the good deeds done at Parkview. I really love this idea and I secretly have wanted to carry this idea out with me when I am President next year. I do not know the full details of what Danielle is doing but I think I will go down this road.

Nothing is better than being recognized for something you've worked hard on, but it's just a little bit sweeter to get to show the gratitude to them, and that's what I want to do, pay it forward to deserving students at this very school. I will try to meet with teachers and staff and have them recommend me a "Student of the Month" type of deal. I am not sure exactly yet how the reward will turn out, maybe a gift basket and a gift card for the awarded. Maybe this will drive other students to work hard in class and help out the community.

I have a few youtube videos that talk about showing gratitude and the science of happiness: gratitude that also include other sources with the sciences of it.
I hated the feeling of being so indecisive but I am glad I have finally settled down...I think. And the theme of my project will be Showing Gratitude.

Project Proposal

I think I will pair up with Brooklyn and Hailey to work on a promotional video all about service learning. We will follow other students who go volunteer/job shadow in the class and film what they do. I will come up with questions to ask the individual such as "Do you think you will continue doing service learning after high school?"

Creating a video promoting active high-schoolers doing good in the world will inspire other students to do the same.  A video can inspire millions of people. I know this video about making the homeless smile inspired me to be ore outgoing to people, homeless or not. We all are human beings with emotions, and we all like to play games and talk to people. Just because some people have worse circumstances than others does not change the fact that they have feelings, too.

It starts with us and it starts with generations to come.

60 Minutes

So I finally buckled down and watched this ironically 40 minute episode of 60 Minutes after being absent.
Even more surprisingly, I have seen this episode numerous times. I still giggle at the reaction of the 15-year-old pancreatic cancer researcher's reaction when he won that science competition. I always enjoy learning what young minds create and invent to further medical technologies. I wish I was as capable but I cannot even understand my own chemistry notes so I'll just leave the glory of discovery to these other youth.

The second portion of the video talked about Free The Children, or Children Helping Children. Even though the founder is now a young adult, it is really awesome how he still reaches out to children and teens to let them know that they too can make a big difference in the world. His We Day event is very inspiring and I think that is so amazing how he started at so young with his 11 friends in his living room to speaking in front of over 20,000 kids in Vancouver who all volunteer and do charities. I feel like I would be inspired by any kid that I would bump into there. I believe everyone has a purpose and that we are the future.

Going off of We Day, I think I would like to have a venue like that. I mentioned in an earlier blogpost about how much I love concerts and how I would love to let everyone experience their "life changing" show. I would use the venue to host an all-ages concert, with inspirational speakers and amazing artists to perform. Everyone needs that little reminder in their life that there is a reason they are alive right now and that they have the power to do anything if they had the right mindset. Once everyone gets all in their feelings, a super awesome band will perform and everyone will become a unit. Why be separate when we can all share awkward eye contact and a whole-hearted smile?

Possible projects I am looking into is just trying to get into my future career field, which is stage managing. I am constantly learning different ways and things that I will need to know in order to be successful. But, I have always wanted to work for concerts; so I was thinking of getting in contact with a local promoter/tour manager and see if he would let me shadow him for a concert just so I get to have the experience. I feel like every high school student should get the chance to shadow/intern in the field of study they are looking at before paying the money and years of study to realize you get queasy at the site of blood and you want to work in the emergency room.
I am still deciding though. The guy I want to shadow is very intimidating but getting what you want means stepping out of your comfort zone.

Start Something That Matters Response

•If you did not have to worry about money, what would you do with your time?
~I would go to concerts all the time. I would get to hang out with my closest friends, support my favorite bands, and everyone just becomes a unit. The feeling of a concert is an unforgettable experience. So if I would not have to worry about money, I would award hardworking students to fly them out to their dream concert. I understand what it is like to be stressed out all the time and I love going to concerts to unwind and enjoy my life at the moment.

•What kind of work/cause would you want to do?
~I would like to work for my own enjoyment. I would do both profit and non-profit jobs. I volunteer time to time for races/charities to raise awareness about diseases. Sometimes this means that I would have to get up at four in the morning but I definitely enjoy helping out for a great cause and seeing the smiles on people's faces. Other than working on schoolwork, I spend my time stage managing. A stage manager is like the director, only backstage. I enjoy doing what I do because I am in control and can lead my peers into the goal of producing an amazing show. It is high maintenance and stressful at times but you deal with it and always come back to it like junk food.

Art to Aid is a forming company that takes artistic people (musicians, painters, drawers, sewers, or even coffee makers) and whatever they buy/sell, a portion of that money will benefit charities of the artist's choice. I really like how this company is not just the "typical" artists; they think everyone can be just as creative whether you make coffee or render blueprints. I especially love their slogan "WE ARE FOR THE MAKERS: The ones who create beautiful things that make the world better. WE ARE FOR DO-GOODERS: The ones who imagine remarkable ways to change the world." Not to mention the fact that the guys behind this company have awesome fashion taste and beautiful 'staches/beards.

OAK Lifestyle stood out the most to me. This is a company in which with every purchase of their high-quality backpack, another one gets donated with school supplies to a homeless child in the U.S. or an impoverished child in Rwanda. The backpacks are very stylish and I will definitely invest my money in one once I need a new backpack. Nothing excites me more than a new backpack and school supplies, and I could not imagine not getting access to these essentials for an excellent education.

Momba is basically a vending machine for the dorm necessities college students would need for their personal hygiene/care, medicines, etc. The money put in for these items will give 10% of its profits to the host schools' financial aid programs. So basically you get safer access to what you need and you give back to your school to help other students at the same time! I want every college to have these machines. They say "Momba (short for "Mom robot") aims to be campus residents' second mom away from home. Whether it's cold outside, late at night, or just too far away, Momba is there for residents around the clock, with things they need, when they need them, within the safety and convenience of where they live." Who wouldn't want this? As of now these machines are in the Massachusetts and Rhode Island areas/universities. But I think ten-fifteen years down the road, every college student will have access to this on their dorm floor. What is also great about this machine is that it accepts cash, cards, and even your school's cashless currency!

It is crazy to see all of these people come up with an idea to benefit anyone no matter what. It benefits the creators, consumers, AND the profits go to help out somewhere. I definitely would like to work for a company like this someday and maybe branch out into my own company. Anyone can change the world.
